All human actions have one or more of these seven causes: Chance, nature, compulsions, habit, reason, passion, desire.

Bad habits are like a comfortable bed, easy to get into, but hard to get out of.

Choose the life that is most useful, and habit will make it the most agreeable.

Consciously or unconsciously, every one of us does render some service or other. If we cultivate the habit of doing this service deliberately, our desire for service will steadily grow stronger, and will make, not only for our own happiness, but that of the world at large.

Curious things, habits. People themselves never knew they had them.

Enduring habits I hate.... Yes, at the very bottom of my soul I feel grateful to all my misery and bouts of sickness and everything about me that is imperfect, because this sort of thing leaves me with a hundred backdoors through which I can escape from enduring habits.

Habit converts luxurious enjoyments into dull and daily necessities.

Habit is stronger than reason.

I never could have done what I have done without the habits of punctuality, order, and diligence, without the determination to concentrate myself on one subject at a time...

Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today.

Nothing is stronger than habit.

One will not go wrong if one attributes extreme actions to vanity, average ones to habit, and petty ones to fear.

Rather than being quick to judge, be quick to forgive.

Such as are your habitual thoughts, such also will be the character of your mind; for the soul is dyed by the thoughts.

The habit of telling myself off subtly shapes a nature of sorrow. Instead, let me talk to myself gently, with patience, as one would do to a child.
